So we had our concert on Saturday and contrary to my previous belief, I had really mall parts that I shared with many other people. But no. I have a BLOODY SOLO!!!! WHICH I GOT THE MUSIC FOR THREE DAYS BEFORE THE CONCERT!!!!!! Also, I've never really played in a concert before, so why the bloody hell did some bloody person think the give me a bloody solo!!!!
I'll never know.
Anyways, I was stressing and never actually played it with the whole band in the room except for the actual concert. We never practiced cueing me (because the bloody band director hates the percussion people and tends not to spend any time on us) and I had only slightly gotten the notes down about an hour before the concert started.
Knowing all this: here's how it went:
For the first two, Deck the Halls, and Spaghetti Dreams, I was perfectly fine. The parts were easy, I picked up on them in about five minutes, I felt good about it, my sound was really amazing, ad it just built up my confidence... until we got to Patapan.
To start it all off, I decided I wouldn't play anything but my solo and the ending scale because I hadn't practiced anything else an they were essentials. So, I only had two shots to get everything right. Also, there is so much bloody rest in it that I DEPENDED on my cue to tell my when to play because I would get lost in the counting. Then, I missed my cue.
Yes, I really did.
And to make matters worse, when she cued the timpanis behind me, I thought she was cueing me andI completely trampled a trumpet solo. I realized half way through what I was doing but couldn't pull off immediately because I was in the middle of the melody. So, I finished the line of melody I was on and pulled out, silently apologizing to the trumpet player right in front of me.
I royally fucked up.
But it's okay because nobody has the music besides me so no one knows I fucked up!!! Except the trumpet player, the percussion instructor, and the band director.... But even the rest of percussion didn't notice! I can' tell you how much I wanted to melt and seep through the cracks of the stage at that moment. I was so embarrassed!!!!!
